The
City began planning for neighborhood revitalization with the
Neighborhood Action Strategy (NAS) Program in 1999. Through
this innovative program, neighborhood residents, landowners
and business, with assistance of City staff, identify ways
to improve conditions in their neighborhoods. City staff then
recommends specific projects and funding strategies to the
City Commission for approval.
The
Commission adopted an NAS for the Park East in February 2000;
and, in June 2000, the Gillespie Park NAS was adopted. The
Rosemary District NAS was adopted in December 2002.
The
City Commision has designated Bayou Oaks to participate
in the next 18 month NAS process that began
in January 2003. Central Cocoanut
will participate in the 2004 process.
Arlington
Park and Alta Vista Neighborhoods will follow in 2005.
Poinsettia Park is slated for 2006.
